Internship at Grossum: The Story of Our First Interns
August 26th, 2014
“Ukraine’s potential in developing software solutions is immense and because of that the need in quality developers is increasing day to day. However, quantity doesn’t always mean quality, but for us at Grossum, quality is one of the key aspects of success. Therefore, even though young ourselves, we want to invest in development of young professionals, who are targeted at quality,” said Mykola Slobodian, Grossum CEO.
We have started the software development internship program for university students, who will learn how to apply their theoretical programming knowledge in practice and not just during the exams. One of the global goals of such a program is to strengthen the economy of Ukraine by attracting foreign investments in Ukraine’s IT industry. More professional developers – more work in IT outsource / outstaff sphere – more investments.
Grossum is a comparatively young company, having been founded on December 2, 2013. Prior to working together here, they have worked together in other companies creating such products as own e-commerce platform as well as an iVoD (Internet Video on Demand) platforms. The e-commerce platform (called Hermes) was used to launch several online stores in Ukraine as well as beyond its borders. Also, there are projects that deal with traffic exchange (Nster) and users’ preferences and likes examination (ABC).
The length of the program is 2 months. In June 2014, first four students have joined the internship.
"I decided to try on the role of an IT intern since I was planning to change my profession from power engineer to a software developer. However, studying the theory is one thing and applying it in practice is another - and I lacked practice," shared Denis Sologub, one of the first interns. "I am grateful for the experience that I received while in the internship. I had a chance to work with PHP, Symfony2, and also learned about HTML layouts and Git." Right now, Denis, after graduating the program, has officially joined the Grossum team and works with ABC project.
We value not only the professional knowledge and experience but also the personalities of our teammates. Agile processes are at work in Grossum and one of the principles of Agile is self-organized teams. Therefore, assembling effective teams is a must since they have to make decisions and share what they know with each other.
